POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA LIMITED IPO

Company Profile : Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Power Grid),is a Navratna state-owned electric utility company headquartered in Gurgaon, India. Power Grid wheels about 50% of the total power generated in India on its transmission network. Power Grid has a pan India presence with around 76,800 Circuit-km of Transmission network and 128 nos. of EHVAC & HVDC sub-stations with a total transformation capacity of 84,500 MVA. The Inter-regional capacity is enhanced to 22400 MW. Power Grid has also diversified into Telecom business and established a telecom network of more than 21,000 km across the country. Power Grid has consistently maintained the transmission system availability over 99.00% which is at par with the International Utilities.

The company have since completed 98 transmission projects and schemes on our own, valued in aggregate at approximately Rs. 248.01 billion. As at March 31, 2007, they had 48 transmission projects in various stages of implementation. Subject to government approvals, they plan to spend Rs. 550 billion towards investment in transmission projects during the GoI’s Eleventh Five Year Plan, which begins on April 1, 2007 and ends on March 31, 2012. The goal in the Eleventh Five Year Plan is to achieve a national power grid with inter-regional power transfer capacity of more than 37,000 MW, which would include our transmission system and others. The tariffs for the company’s transmission projects are determined by CERC, pursuant to Electricity Act and CERC regulations, and are presently based on a cost-plus tariff based system.

Anil agarwal controlled Sterlite Industries raised $500 million in senior notes which are convertible into ADS at an initial conversion price of approximately $23.33 per ADS. This represents a premium of 37.5% to the then prevailing price. The notes have a maturity of 5 years and will bear a interest at the rate of 4% per annum. The company intends to use the net proceeds from the offering for expansion of copper business. State-owned telecom provider Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has expressed interest to acquire equity in Zambian operator Zamtel, which the Zambian government plans to sell up to 75% of as part of a privatization drive. MTNL has floated an expression of interest to invite bids for appointment of a company to carry out due diligence of Zamtel. Zamtel is Zambia's only licensed fixed-line provider of voice and data communications and had revenue of $100 million in 2008.
India's Larsen & Toubro Ltd. has posted 26% increase in net profit in second quarter, helped by exceptional gains during the quarter. Net profit for the July-September quarter rose to 5.80 billion rupees ($125 million) from 4.60 billion rupees a year earlier by sales. The company's net sales for the September quarter rose 2.4% to 78.66 billion rupees, compared with 76.82 billion rupees last year. Nasdaq-listed iGate signaled a possible uptick in the fortunes of mid-size IT firms with a 4.7% sequential rise in its revenue to $49 million and a 50% growth in net income to $9 million for the September 2009 quarter. iGate added six new customers during the quarter.
